Course summary

The proposed course consists of two parts. A general part held by two colleagues of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture Kaunas University of Technology (Lithuania) professors: Tadas Zdankusche and Juozas Vaičiūnas will deal with aspects related to teaching and also technical aspects relating to their courses on Renewable energy, Sustainable and Energy Efficient Buildings. The second part will be held by the proponents, professors: (Roberto Ricciu, Andrea Frattolillo and Carlo Costantino Mastino) who will present both the theoretical and laboratory part of the sizing of solar thermal and photovoltaic systems in the particular case of integration into buildings.

Description

The course teachers propose the point of view of university researchers who deal with the contribution of buildings to the green transition towards a modern and competitive economy. The 55% reduction in emissions by 2030 starts precisely from buildings which consume around 40% of the energy of the entire EU. The energy sustainability of buildings is linked both to energy saving with the same comfort of the occupants, so we can immediately state that for every kWh of energy saved we have also “free” the part lost due to the performance of the systems that produce the energy, and then it is possible to install/replace modern heating and cooling systems, which are more efficient and use renewable energy sources through systems on the market.

Students are offered an experience in which, in addition to presenting them with the problems proposed by the EU green deal agenda, they will be able to put into practice the notions learned in the Environmental Technical Physics course (Bachelor’s Degree) and in the integrated technological design laboratory (Master’s Degree) through examples and applications. A design application based on using the software platform for educational use, Excel will allow them to automate everything. For students, in addition to improving their practice and the possibility of better understanding the concepts of thermodynamics and heat exchange, they will also can practice with calculation software in which they will have to manage the entire programming and design phase.

It is preferable that students have followed the Applied Environmental Thermodynamics and building thermophysics course)

We will use Microsoft Excel which is free to install for all students. You need to bring your PC with the software installed
